Logan Webb criticizes Giants reporter following disappointing defeat

Logan Webb’s challenging outing didn’t merely conclude when he exited the game.

Following the San Francisco Giants’ humiliating 10-0 defeat against the Toronto Blue Jays at Oracle Park, Webb’s irritation was apparent on X, leading to a flurry of intense responses that highlighted the underlying tensions within the team.

A screenshot captured by sportswriter Ben Ross displayed Webb’s struggle after this tough loss, engaging in a back-and-forth that involved criticism directed at the team and his performance within it.

The controversy ignited when KNBR reporter Jack Loder criticized the current state of the Giants, pointing out a “leadership void,” lack of talent, and players who seemed disengaged.

In response, Webb expressed dismay at the notion of having someone like Loder in the locker room.

It seemed Webb was eager to keep the dialogue going, remarking that Loder had taken the time to craft a reply, making it evident that he was keen on the exchange.

In another instance, Webb clapped back at a critical fan, referring to him as a “couch-sleeping loser who didn’t make the Little League team.”

Shortly after, however, Webb deleted his account.

A Reddit user noted the deletion, stating that Webb’s X page had vanished soon after the confrontation. Initially deactivated, his account @LoganWebb1053 is now untraceable.

This incident seemed to serve as a mirror to the team’s ongoing struggles.

Webb had just pitched during one of the Giants’ worst losses of the season. He allowed five runs in the first inning, including the first grand slam of his major league career. Although he settled down afterward, giving up just one hit in the ensuing six innings, the early damage had already weighed heavily on the team.

Postgame, Webb stated, “We lost the game, right? We let the team trail 5-0 in the first inning. That’s not good.”

For Giants supporters, this wasn’t just about a reaction to a couple of critics. The season has been full of ups and downs. Other than Webb’s performance, the pitching staff has been faltering, and the high-priced veterans are falling short of what was expected of them.

What started as a year full of playoff aspirations now has the Giants looking like MLB’s major sellers ahead of the trade deadline.

This dynamic only complicates Webb’s outburst.

Despite the chaos, he remains one of the few bright spots on the team: an All-Star, a respected presence in the clubhouse, the kind of pitcher the Giants should focus on developing. Even after that rocky first inning, he pressed on, giving his team more time in a game that could have spiraled further out of control.

Yet, when even Webb feels the need to spar online and then abruptly disengages, it speaks volumes about the team’s state of mind.

The losses are mounting.

So too is the frustration.

Thanks to Ross’ screenshot, Webb’s brief foray into the world of online criticism won’t simply vanish along with his account.
