Long Island driver strikes elderly pedestrian

A callous hit-and-run driver struck and killed an elderly man on Long Island Wednesday night, dragged the dying victim to the side of the road and then drove off, authorities said.

Nassau County Police say Jeffrey Frank, 74, was crossing Broadway near the Everitt Avenue intersection in Hewlett just after 10 p.m. when he was struck by a dark-colored SUV.

Witnesses reported that the driver got out of the vehicle and pulled the victim from the roadway.
