Confrontation at Long Island Target
A Long Island man had a meltdown during a bizarre sting operation when he was confronted by a vigilante predator hunting group. In a chaotic scene captured on video, he bit a police officer, called his mother, and crawled on the floor in an odd display of resistance.
Mark Zimmerman, 44, lost control on March 3 at the Target in Copiague. He arrived under the impression he was meeting a 14-year-old girl, but instead encountered members of the New York Predator Hunters, as recorded in the footage.
Initially, Zimmerman seemed calm when questioned by the hunters regarding the sexual messages and explicit photos he allegedly sent to the supposed “girl.” However, he denied responsibility for the pictures, bizarrely claiming they belonged to a friend, as seen in the video.
“Is that your penis?” asked Anthony McGlone, a member of the group.
“That’s my friend’s,” Zimmerman replied.
As the questioning persisted, Zimmerman’s demeanor shifted. He briefly left the store before coming back, pursued by police officers. “I’m calling my mom!” he shouted while running through the aisles, prompting officers to chase him down.
“Don’t touch me! I have a heart condition!” he screamed repeatedly while officers tried to subdue him, according to the footage.
In a desperate attempt to escape, he bit one of the officers and then tried to crawl under a clothing rack.
“You just bit me!” the officer exclaimed, clearly caught off guard.
The vigilante group even assisted in the detainment instead of the officers, adding to the unexpected mayhem.
Screenshots shared by the group revealed that Zimmerman had contacted someone he believed to be a teenager via social media, which turned out to be an adult member of their organization.
He had agreed to meet up at the Target, according to both the documents and video evidence.
Currently, Zimmerman faces charges only for obstruction of justice. He didn’t respond to any requests for comment.
Zimmerman is scheduled to appear in court on March 23 for his arraignment.
Suffolk County Police have chosen not to comment on the ongoing investigation.
