Long Island man found guilty in brutal Hamptons murder for which he sought a handyman's help to clean up

A man from Long Island has been convicted of first-degree murder after violently attacking his longtime friend following a day of drinking in the Hamptons.

Jeremy Allen, 44, assaulted Christopher Hearn, 43, for a brutal 18 minutes on September 27, 2024. The horrifying attack was so severe that sounds of the beatings were recorded on surveillance footage outside Allen’s home in East Quogue. This was reported by the Suffolk County Attorney’s Office.

“This defendant betrayed bonds of friendship in the most horrific way imaginable, and today’s sentence will hold him accountable,” stated Suffolk District Attorney Ray Tierney.

According to prosecutors, Allen and Hearn had been friends since high school and spent the day drinking at a bar before heading to Allen’s house for more drinks.

Shortly after midnight, Allen unexpectedly punched Hearn, leaving him semi-conscious on the back deck. However, this initial attack was just the beginning.

Allen returned with a baseball bat, striking Hearn repeatedly on the head and body. Then he wrapped a plastic bag around Hearn’s head and sat nearby, watching as his friend struggled for breath.

Later, prosecutors noted that Allen took a knife and “slowly stabbed his victim 10 times in the neck,” all while observing as Hearn took his last breaths, which occurred six hours after the assault began.

After the attack, Allen attempted to clean up the scene and even called a handyman for help with destroying evidence. The handyman, shocked by what he saw, fled to alert the police.

Allen was quickly arrested and charged with murder due to the senseless nature of the attack. A jury in Suffolk County found him guilty of first-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence; he is set to be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on February 26.
