Los Angeles attorney who gave millions to Democrats found guilty of massive Ponzi scheme

Despite his financial collapse, Girardi continued to donate to prominent Democrats, including Hillary Clinton, President Joe Biden, former President Barack Obama, Gov. Gavin Newsom and the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California.

Few campaigns responded to questions about whether they would return ill-gotten funds from disgraced former lawyers, the Times reported.

Girardi was disbarred from the California bar in 2022 and his law firm was forced into bankruptcy.

He was the lawyer in the famous case dramatized in the popular film “Erin Brockovich.”

The Democrat is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 6 and faces up to 20 years in prison on each of the four wire fraud counts.

“Mr. Girardi falsely promoted himself in the media as a pillar of the legal community with a strong sense of justice, but his clients who have been wronged by him for years now have found true justice with today's verdict,” said FBI Special Agent in Charge Akil Davis.
