Los Angeles deputy ‘basically unscathed’ after cruiser goes airborne, flips after vehicle crash

A California driver’s dashboard camera captured the moment a Los Angeles County sheriff’s patrol car collided with another vehicle at a busy intersection on Wednesday, sending the patrol car flying into the air.

The accident happened just before 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Newhall Ranch Road and Bouquet Canyon Road in Santa Clarita.

The video shows a gold Lexus crashing into the side of a police car as the officer is driving through an intersection, causing the car to spin, fly through the air and come to a stop on its front after crashing into a silver SUV waiting at a red light.

Another witness, Audrey Carias, described the moment of the accident: To KTLA.

“A police car was coming towards me and another car sped up and hit it,” Carias said.[The patrol car] The car flipped over and hit the two cars in front of me. Luckily I wasn’t hit.”

According to reports, several passersby rushed to the scene to try to help the deputy after the accident, and the sheriff’s office said he suffered minor injuries and has since been released from the hospital.

“I think it says a lot that the Santa Clarita community loves their police department here,” LAPD Sergeant Shelley Clark told FOX11.

“It was a horrific sight. We’re all very surprised and very happy,” he said. [the deputy] “I basically walked away unscathed,” she added.

The driver of the SUV that was struck by the patrol car was also treated at a hospital and released, while the elderly driver of the gold Lexus was uninjured in the crash, FOX11 reported.
