Los Angeles to Join Lawsuit Against Trump Administration

On Tuesday, leaders in Los Angeles announced the city’s decision to participate in a lawsuit against the Trump administration regarding local immigrant issues.

Los Angeles will partner with the American Civil Liberties Union in the legal action, arguing that federal authorities are employing “illegal tactics” to achieve specific arrest goals.

“The federal government has amassed thousands of armed immigration agents, many of whom don’t display visible identification. The military has executed unconstitutional actions, roundups, and anonymous detentions in our neighborhoods, spreading fear and confusion among residents,” a city official stated.

“The motion to intervene today indicates that we won’t sit idly by, allowing these assaults to continue or become commonplace in our community.”

The Department of Homeland Security hasn’t yet provided a comment on the situation following a request from Hill.

Mayor Karen Bass and California Governor Gavin Newsom opposed the president’s recent decision to send National Guard troops to Los Angeles, aiming to control protests against immigration policy.

“I think this is some kind of experiment. Los Angeles feels like a testing ground. It’s like they’re pushing boundaries to see how much federal authority can override state power,” Bass commented.

She also remarked on the significant economic ramifications, saying it has deeply affected families and served a political agenda, with no benefits for the city.

The group of gathered residents expressed their frustration over the recent migrant-related incidents that resulted in numerous arrests, but Bass contended that the situation was misrepresented.

“The so-called ‘riots’ didn’t occur. Yes, there was vandalism and looting, but the portrayal was exaggerated, making it seem as if the entire city was ablaze,” Bass told the media.

She criticized comparisons to the 1992 Los Angeles riots following the Rodney King verdict, deeming them “entirely inappropriate.”

The mayor of a nearby area joined Bass in calling on the Trump administration, suspecting it of infringing on the constitutional rights of residents.

“The lawsuit aims to hold accountable federal agencies, such as the Office of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which are implicated in policies and actions that violate the Fourth and Tenth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution and the Administrative Procedure Act,” Bass explained.

“Let me be clear: we cannot allow our families to be separated without proper procedures, and we won’t remain silent while residents’ constitutional rights are violated,” she emphasized.
