New Orleans Police Chief Rides Pig-Shaped Golf Cart at Festival
Anne Kirkpatrick, the police chief of New Orleans, was seen riding a golf cart shaped like a pig at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival this past Saturday, as shown in footage shared by the Daily Caller.
The video reveals Kirkpatrick and the pig-themed vehicle, which stopped to engage with festival-goers, taking photos alongside stuffed owls wearing jerseys and sunglasses. The cart is adorned with a logo associated with a local barbecue team and nonprofit, known as Pig’s House, which aims to fund a “pig house” to offer free lodging for families visiting children’s hospitals.
“That’s the police chief,” someone commented in the video.
Kirkpatrick’s public choice of transport is indeed noteworthy, especially since “pig” is often a derogatory term used by some activists when referring to law enforcement.
Democratic Mayor LaToya Cantrell administered Kirkpatrick’s oath as NOPD director in November 2023. With over 35 years in law enforcement and two decades leading the department, Kirkpatrick’s credentials are extensive.
However, she has faced criticism, particularly following the New Year’s terrorist attack in New Orleans, where a Muslim extremist drove a truck down Bourbon Street, resulting in 14 fatalities and 57 injuries, according to authorities.
Some local officials have voiced concerns regarding Kirkpatrick’s handling of security during celebrations, suggesting a lack of road barricades and protective bollards, which are typically steel pillars designed to guard against vehicle attacks.
During a council meeting in January, Kirkpatrick asserted she would not resign, expressing a belief in her ability to lead the department positively. Reports indicated that police had intentionally restrained hydraulic barriers designed to counter such attacks, prompting the barrier’s manufacturer to offer free inspections and maintenance.
Kirkpatrick previously taught law enforcement executives about bias, diversity, and emotional intelligence as part of the FBI Law Enforcement Association’s leadership program. She was also dismissed from her role as chief of the Oakland Police Department in February 2020 after three years in the position, with criticisms about her effectiveness stated by the Oakland Police Commission.
In August 2024, she was involved in an accident that injured two pedestrians, and she later apologized publicly, expressing regret for the incident and taking responsibility.
The Daily Caller reached out to the NOPD for comments, but no response has been received yet.
