Local residents reported hearing gunshots in the area where the incident occurred and said they initially believed the bangs were fireworks.

A source told local newspaper Edinburgh Live: “At first we thought it was fireworks, but then we saw blue lights, ambulances and armed police.”

“There was a lot of commotion right before the bell rang.”

Webley's brother Don posted a photo of them together on social media after Webley's death.
