Louisiana Parents Charged with Murder Following Son’s Neglect
A couple from Louisiana is now facing murder charges, stemming from the alleged neglect of their 5-year-old son, who was found weighing only 19 pounds during what officials described as a “medical emergency” at a gas station earlier this month, according to police.
Marlon Perrilloux, 33, and Reynisa Young, 27, were taken into custody after a rapid investigation into accusations of abuse that ultimately led to their son’s tragic and slow demise.
The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a service station around 9 p.m. on January 1 after receiving a call about a “medical emergency involving a juvenile.”
At the scene, deputies encountered Marlon and his severely malnourished son, Marley Perilloux, sources reported.
First responders attempted to resuscitate Marley and undertook various “life-saving measures.” He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
At the time of his passing, Marley’s weight raised serious concerns, with the sheriff’s office confirming he was just 19 pounds. There’s a troubling uncertainty about when he last had a meal.
Following their arrival, detectives from the Juvenile Division began investigating “immediately,” noting Marley exhibited signs of extreme malnutrition and neglect.
A search warrant executed at the family’s residence revealed the home was in “poor condition due to inclement weather and was almost uninhabitable,” which contributed to the state of neglect.
During subsequent interviews, it came to light that the parents had consistently failed to provide their child with adequate hygiene, food, and medical attention.
Community reactions have been intense, with many expressing horror at the allegations surrounding the couple. Comments on social media directed sharp criticism towards Young, particularly concerning her demeanor in her mug shot.
As concerns about their circumstances grew, a user remarked, “She looks like the devil,” while another comment mockingly suggested, “But they must have been eating. Stop complaining about prison food.”
Currently, both parents are being held in Ascension Parish Jail without the possibility of bail. They face charges that include negligent homicide, second-degree abuse of a juvenile, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and unlawful possession of a weapon, with the possibility of additional charges to follow.
