Louisiana Senator Blake Miguez Shifts Focus to House Race

Louisiana Republican Senator Blake Miguez, who previously ran against incumbent Senator Bill Cassidy in the primaries last year, has decided to shift his campaign efforts toward a run for the House of Representatives.

This change comes after Rep. Julia Letlow, a Republican from Louisiana and a candidate backed by former President Donald Trump, entered the Senate race last month.

“When I announced my campaign for the U.S. Senate last year, I promised Louisiana’s people that I would support President Trump and advocate for America First policies that benefit Louisiana families,” Miguez stated. He emphasized his commitment to this promise and expressed readiness to support Trump in his mission. press release

Miguez also made it clear in a campaign video that he was motivated to run due to his views on Cassidy, saying quite frankly, “Bill Cassidy sucks.”

Cassidy had drawn the ire of some Republicans for voting to convict Trump after the House’s impeachment in 2021. That Senate vote, conducted after Trump left the presidency, did not meet the necessary threshold for conviction.

With Letlow’s recent announcement, other candidates, like Louisiana Representative Julie Emerson, have also withdrawn their Senate bids. Emerson, in her statement, mentioned the challenges that Letlow’s candidacy posed to her own vision of victory, citing her respect for Trump and support for Letlow’s campaign.

Letlow’s run has certainly made waves, especially with Trump himself showing strong support for her. He encouraged her to pursue the Senate seat passionately, stating on Truth Social, “Run, Julia, run!!!”
