Louisiana Republicans are pushing a bill that would add the popular abortion pill to the state’s list of “controlled dangerous substances.”
The clause was introduced as an amendment to a larger abortion bill that would make it a crime for someone to administer abortion drugs to a pregnant woman without her consent. This amendment would add both mifeprestone and misoprostol to the list of controlled substances.
According to the Washington Post, Louisiana would be the first state to make such a move.
If the bill passes, individuals found in possession of the pills without a valid prescription or medical treatment could be subject to fines and jail time.
For Louisiana lawmakers, excluding incest and rape from the state’s abortion ban is personal.

The move comes in an election year when Democrats were trying to put the abortion issue at the forefront of voters’ minds. Republicans are struggling to take a universal position on the issue after achieving their decades-long goal of ending Roe v. Wade.

Independent 2024 presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. last week expressed support for abortion “even at term.”
RFK JR. MSNBC host Ari Melber accused of inflicting ‘acrimony’ in the US over escalating clashes
RFK made a shocking confession in an interview with Sage Steele.
Kennedy: “I’m probably one of the leaders, probably one of the leaders, in defending medical freedom and bodily autonomy in this country.” told Steele. “When it comes to abortion, I think every abortion is a tragedy, and many leave women with permanent trauma. But at the end of the day, I don’t believe the government has jurisdiction over people’s bodies. I think we need to leave that up to the government.” It’s up to the woman, her pastor, and, you know, her spiritual advisors and doctors, etc. to make that decision. ”

“So, in other words, Roe v. Wade would be overturned, leaving it up to each state to decide whether and when a woman can have an abortion,” Steele continued.
“No, I’m not going to leave it up to the states,” Kennedy responded. “It should be left to women. The government should not be involved.”
“Even if it’s full term,” Steele said.

“Even if it’s a full term,” President Kennedy admitted, later adding, “I think we should leave it to the women, not the country. We should do everything we can to make sure something like that never happens.” But at the end of the day, I don’t think anyone would do that, and I think there’s always some extenuating circumstances that cause a mother to make that choice. The same goes for you. I can’t stress enough how awful that is. And I think ultimately you have to trust women. ”
