A man accused of killing a Louisiana mother and kidnapping two children, ages 4 and 6, has been jailed in Mississippi, police said.
The Tangipahoa County Sheriff’s Office announced on social media that deputies arrested Daniel Callihan, 36, on Thursday, June 13.
Police said Callihan “committed a brutal and heinous act of violence” in the murders of Carrie Brunette, 35, and her 4-year-old daughter, Erin.
“Our hearts go out to all of the victims of this tragic incident, which is an unspeakable crime,” Tanjipahoa County Sheriff Daniel Edwards said in a statement. “We ask that everyone keep Curry’s family in their prayers.”

Authorities say 4-year-old Erin was found dead in the woods.
“A dead child was found in the woods,” Wade said. “We suspect it may be one of the children that was taken from Tanjipahoa Parish, Louisiana, and that was in their illegal possession.”

The other abducted child, 6-year-old Jaylee, was found injured in the woods.

“One of the children, a 6-year-old, was taken to the hospital for treatment,” he said. “My understanding is that the 4-year-old died in the woods.”
Wade said police were still trying to determine the four-year-old’s “cause of death.”

Wade called the scene “traumatic” and expressed gratitude to other law enforcement agencies who assisted in the investigation.
