Louisiana teacher Emma Prejean faces charges for misconduct involving a student

Teacher Arrested for Inappropriate Conduct

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office revealed on Wednesday that a 29-year-old teacher, Emma Catherine Prejean, has been arrested by Louisiana State Police on charges related to inappropriate conduct with a minor and solicitation of a minor.

Authorities stated that during questioning, Prejean confessed to having inappropriate interactions with minors. This interview followed discussions between police and the victim’s family, during which evidence emerged linking Prejean to the alleged misconduct. The minor specifically named her during the inquiry.

“As always, we ask for patience and privacy for the victim and his family. Our detectives are working diligently to solve this case and hold this offender accountable for his actions,” said Sheriff Tim Soigny in a statement.

Prejean was taken into custody at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex on Tuesday. Police noted she is currently held without bail as set by a local judge.

This incident follows the arrest of another teacher in Florida just days earlier—a 49-year-old named Mackenzie McLean. She has been charged with multiple offenses, including having an inappropriate relationship with a student who had moved into her home.

According to the arrest affidavit, McLean, an economics teacher at Crooms Academy in Sanford, allegedly provided alcohol to a male student—the son of a friend—engaging in inappropriate sexual contact. The victim reported that he was given numerous shots of gin before being sexually assaulted after telling McLean to stop.

He estimated the assaults occurred around five to ten times during the two months while McLean was teaching at the school.

The Seminole County school district has placed McLean on administrative leave following these developments.
