A Louisiana woman is behind bars after police say she falsely reported that her young son was kidnapped last week.

According to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office, Altasia Villes, 24, called authorities around 1 a.m. on Nov. 5 to report that her young son was suspected of being abducted near Route 190 and Industrial Road in Eunice. did.

Villes said he was parked in the driveway to change a flat tire when “people in old-fashioned trucks” took his son.

When officers arrived at the scene, residents quickly learned that the boy was found alone in the Heinen Medical Clinic parking lot with a “grazed knee,” according to the sheriff's office.

The boy, whose age was not released, told police that his mother had “run him over” and left him on the side of the road. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Juvenile detectives from the sheriff's office were called in to investigate because the boy's and his mother's statements were drastically different.

The sheriff's office said a subsequent interview with Viges “revealed a horrifying truth.” It was determined that the boy had not been kidnapped, but had been left on the highway and “allowed to run away in the middle of the night.”

“What started as a disagreement between mother and child turned into a bizarre reaction when the child threw a tantrum,” the sheriff's office said on Facebook.

When Bijes stopped the car, her son jumped out of the car before it stopped, injuring his knee. The sheriff's office noted that he was “clearly not properly restrained.”

Vyges allegedly told detectives that she “eventually lost sight of her son” because she didn't try to chase him.
