Boise Pride Event Cancelled Due to Lack of Attendance
There was a scheduled Pride event in Boise, Idaho on Friday, June 6th, intended to kick off the celebration of LGBTQ+ pride for the month. But, well, things didn’t go as planned.
It seems that the excitement didn’t translate into actual attendance. The kickoff, expected to be a grand occasion at the knitting factory, was meant to feature performances by artists like Cody Bellue and Ariana & Rose. Tickets for general admission were fairly priced at $25, while VIP access was set at $60.
Organizers emphasized that the Pride Season Kickoff was more than just an event. It was about love, resilience, and community, encouraging everyone to join in and celebrate together. It should have been a joyful beginning to the season.
So, what happened? Despite strong online enthusiasm, the turnout just wasn’t there. A local report indicated that the attendance commitments fell short of what was needed to host the event responsibly. All tickets have been refunded, putting a damper on what many had looked forward to.
The organizers noted that while there was considerable interest in launching the Pride Season, the actual number of attendees was insufficient for a safe event. They voiced a hope for growing pride in Boise in the future, emphasizing that genuine support means showing up in person.
This cancellation follows a day dedicated to honoring those who have made sacrifices for the country, leading into the broader celebrations of Pride month. It’s a time when the LGBTQ+ community, once marginalized, has grown into a significant part of the cultural fabric. However, amidst these celebrations, some find the idea of extended self-celebration a bit uncomfortable.
As the month unfolds, enthusiasm remains, but it’s clear that community participation is vital for success. Whether or not personal celebration aligns with one’s views, the importance of coming together can’t be overstated.
