In the new mock draft, Angel Reese is wearing Lynx and a suit.
LSU’s All-American forward is projected to be No. 7 at the University of Minnesota, according to ESPN’s Latest Mock Draftafter Reese declared for the 2024 WNBA Draft in a Vogue magazine photoshoot on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-3 Reese, who led LSU to the NCAA Championship last year and was named the 2023 NCAA Tournament MVP, had 17 points and 20 rebounds in LSU’s postseason loss to consensus No. 1 pick Caitlin Clark. Recorded. Draft, and Monday’s Elite Eight game against the Iowa Hawkeyes.
It was an ordinary night in college hoops for Reese, who averaged a double-double in last year’s NCAA Women’s Tournament.
But questions have been raised about how the 21-year-old’s play will translate at the professional level, including whether she can expand on her attacking abilities.
Reese, who was named the SEC Player of the Year for the 2023-24 season, is an excellent rebounder and defensive player, and if she can expand her outside shooting range, she will be a versatile asset for the Lynx.
Reese could also grow alongside three-time All-Star forward Napheesa Collier, who led Minnesota to the playoffs after an 0-6 start last season.
Collier led the Lynx in minutes played (37) and points (31) in Minnesota’s season-ending loss to the Connecticut Sun in the first round of the 2023 WNBA Playoffs in September.
The Lynx could become a legitimate threat in the postseason with the addition of Reese, whose proven strength in the paint made him one of the top rebounders in college basketball.
ESPN drafted Clark with the first pick to the Indiana Fever, followed by Stanford forward Cameron Brink with the second pick to the Los Angeles Sparks. Tennessee forward Rikea Jackson was taken third to the Chicago Sky. South Carolina center Camila Cardoso went to the Sparks at No. 4. College forward Aaliyah Edwards was taken fifth to the Dallas Wings. Ohio State guard Jaycee Sheldon was taken with the No. 6 pick by the Mystics.
UW star guard Paige Bueckers will remain in college until her final year of eligibility, and University of Southern California freshman JuJu Watkins will not be eligible for the draft until he turns 22, per WNBA rules.
