Luigi Mangione’s Controversial Episode in Thailand
Months before he allegedly took the life of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, Luigi Mangione recounted an incident involving a group of “ladyboys” during his trip to Thailand.
In May 2024, Mangione stayed at a guesthouse in Tenkawa, Japan. According to reports, he shared stories with friends about a bizarre encounter with seven “ladyboys.” The New York Times revealed that it had access to WhatsApp conversations where Mangione detailed this encounter in Bangkok.
In these messages, he described how he was physically attacked by the group, which he referred to with a term commonly used for men dressed as women. He even shared a picture showing a scratch on his arm, implying he had been punched or scratched during the altercation.
While down there, Mangione also connected with soccer player Christian Sacchini and another unnamed acquaintance.
Sacchini mentioned meeting Mangione at a pub in Bangkok back in March. He recalled how Mangione engaged him with tales about video games and Pokémon, but then unexpectedly shifted to a discussion about the “enhanced” nature of the U.S. healthcare system as opposed to Thailand’s pricing. Apparently, Mangione was quite surprised by how affordable an MRI was in Thailand, expressing disbelief at the cost.
As of now, Mangione is awaiting trial for Thompson’s murder, facing both state and federal charges. The prosecution is pushing for the death penalty.
