Robert Jr. Crushes Home Run in Return

Luis Robert Jr. hit a massive 451-foot home run over the left-field wall on Tuesday, marking his second game back with the Mets after being on the disabled list while with Milwaukee.

In the eighth inning of the Mets’ 4-1 victory, Robert faced off against relief pitcher Bryce Wilson. Brewers left fielder Jackson Ciorio merely turned to watch the ball sail over the wall, without even bothering to move toward it.

As Robert rounded the bases, cameras captured Mets teammates in the dugout, visibly astonished by the outfielder’s impressive blast.

Zach Thornton, who had pitched six shutout innings for the Mets, stood on the top step of the dugout, mouth agape, arms raised in disbelief.

Meanwhile, fellow outfielder AJ Ewing, having seen Robert play center field during his own career, chuckled, covering his mouth in amazement.

This was a significant moment for Robert, who had missed nearly three months of his first season at Queen’s due to a herniated disc in his lower back.

He made his return from the 60-day injured list on Monday against Milwaukee, though that game ended in an 8-3 loss. Starting in center field and batting seventh, Robert was hitless that day but managed to go 1-for-5 on Tuesday in his third game of the season.

With Robert’s return, the Mets finally had a chance to field their envisioned complete roster. However, various injuries had made that difficult for the team since the offseason.

Interim manager Andy Green, especially as the trade deadline approached, found himself with more options to construct his lineup, particularly in center field, where Ewing had delivered excellent defense, shining as one of the brighter spots in a challenging season. He had posted an OPS exceeding 116.
