Child Support Case Against Luka Doncic Dismissed
Anamaria Goltes’ claim for child support from Luka Doncic was officially thrown out on Friday, but the courtroom was anything but quiet about it.
During a remote session in a Los Angeles County courthouse, Doncic’s attorney, Laura Wasser, wasted no time in criticizing Goltes’ attorney, Evan C. Itzkowitz. When Judge Melissa C. Lyons inquired about Wasser’s intentions regarding Goltes’ case, Wasser seized the moment. She suggested that the proceedings were an unnecessary drain on her and her client’s time, implying the case shouldn’t have been filed at all.
“To our credit, I think it was stated in our documents that this matter should never have been filed in the first place,” Wasser remarked, showing her discontent with the situation.
Judge Lyons then turned to Itzkowitz, seeking clarification about his request for total dismissal, to which Itzkowitz confirmed that he believed they didn’t even need to address Wasser’s motion to rescind.
Later, Itzkowitz explained that he had previously attempted to dismiss the case back on August 3 but admitted that Wasser’s assertions were indeed “correct.” “We actually submitted it, but it was rejected because it didn’t have Mr. Doncic’s signature. A signature is not required,” he clarified. “I have resubmitted it based on the clerk’s recommendation.”
Shortly thereafter, Judge Lyons granted the motion to dismiss without prejudice. This essentially means the case could potentially be opened again in the future. Both Wasser and Itzkowitz acknowledged the court’s decision before leaving the session.
This hearing concluded a turbulent legal dispute between Doncic and Goltes that initially began on March 9 when Goltes filed her request for child support. This filing forced Goltes to confirm her breakup with Doncic, who is not only an NBA All-Star but also a well-known figure in basketball.
Not long after the filing, Doncic engaged Wasser, who promptly sought to dismiss the case, arguing that “Goltes’ California petition is a clear attempt to forum shop and take advantage of California’s famously generous child support.” This situation certainly stirred up a lot of headlines.
In her August 3 letter to withdraw her petition, Goltes expressed a desire to resolve the conflict with Doncic amicably, stating emphasis on mutual agreement for the benefit of the children involved. Interestingly, she reportedly proposed a $50 million settlement to wrap things up. Quite a number, right?
