Disappearance of American Rower Lynette Hooker Sparks Search and Investigation

The husband of missing American rower Lynette Hooker remains hopeful about finding her, as he plans to join the search effort himself. His lawyer noted that he feels “hopeless without her.”

Brian Hooker, age 59, was taken into custody late on Wednesday as a suspect related to the disappearance of his 55-year-old wife. This follows his report of falling from their dinghy and being swept away by strong waves during a sailing trip in the Bahamas.

As the search for Lynette enters its second week, attorney Terrell Butler shared that Hooker continues to hold out hope that rescuers will locate his wife.

“He hopes she recovers because he feels hopeless without her,” Butler remarked during an interview on Friday. “They have been married for 25 years. She’s his life partner, and he says they share everything.”

Brian Hooker was arrested in Abaco and is currently under police questioning, though he denies any involvement in his wife’s disappearance.

Authorities have been searching for Lynette since her husband reported that she fell into the sea while they were returning to their yacht, named Soulmate. According to Brian, she went overboard while holding the boat’s keys, which disabled the engine, forcing him to row back to the marina.

Interestingly, the lawyer mentioned that Hooker intended to continue the search on his own right before his arrest.

Concerns about the case have arisen, particularly after Lynette’s daughter from a prior relationship reported past allegations of domestic violence.

In a prior statement, Carly Aylesworth expressed her belief that something might have happened to her mother. She raised alarms about a history of threats, including one where her father allegedly threatened to throw her mother overboard.

The situation isn’t without its complications. A 2015 arrest report revealed that Lynette had been briefly detained after a physical altercation with Brian in Michigan. During this incident, officers noted her husband was intoxicated and had visible injuries.

While Brian claimed that Lynette struck him during an argument, she alleged that he assaulted her first, leading to her brief arrest, which was later dismissed due to insufficient evidence.

The search for Lynette Hooker continues, raising questions and concerns about her safety and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
