Daylight Jewelry Store Heist Foiled by Store Owner
In a brazen attempt, masked thieves drove a pickup truck into the front of a jewelry store in Lynnwood, Washington, around 12:25 p.m. on Tuesday. The incident unfolded at Medina Jewelers, where surveillance footage revealed three vehicles loitering in the parking lot before a white Toyota Tacoma smashed through the entrance, breaking glass and causing panic among employees.
Several masked individuals, one reportedly wielding an axe, darted inside the store. However, the quick-thinking store owner grabbed a gun and fired at the thieves, prompting them to flee without any stolen goods, according to local reports.
It’s fortunate that no injuries were reported at the scene, although it remains unclear if any suspects were hit by the gunfire during the chaotic event. Lynnwood Police Cmdr. Joe Dickenson noted the unusual timing, stating, “It was broad daylight and a pretty rare occurrence for us.”
Witnesses were understandably alarmed as the commotion unfolded, with one expressing concern about the combination of a car crash followed by gunshots. The suspects managed to escape in a black BMW SUV and a silver Toyota or Infiniti sedan. Interestingly, it seems the BMW hit a parked car while they were making their getaway, possibly sustaining damage to its front passenger side.
Authorities are encouraging anyone who might recognize the suspects or the vehicles in the surveillance footage to come forward with information.
