Rep. Nancy Mace Leaves Hearing Early After Emotional Experience
On Tuesday, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) left a House Oversight Committee meeting early, where victims of the late Jeffrey Epstein were present.
As she passed by reporters, Mace wiped tears from her face and declined to answer any questions.
Later, she shared her experience as a sexual assault survivor on social media, stating that she experienced a “completely blown away panic attack” while listening to one victim recount her ordeal.
“It’s already been reported, yes, I left an early surveillance briefing with the Epstein victim,” Mace mentioned on the platform X.
“As a recent survivor, not even two years out, I really struggled to hear the stories,” she continued. “I had a panic attack. Sweats, hyperventilation, shaking. I felt like I couldn’t breathe.”
“We know that no one will fight for us, so we feel the intense pain that every victim feels,” she added. “God bless all survivors.”
Several accusers of Epstein also attended the closed-door meeting, as the House Oversight Committee continues its investigation into how the federal government handled the Epstein case.
Democrats are calling for a hearing featuring Epstein’s accusers, arguing that some crucial details may not be accurately represented in the Department of Justice records. The Oversight Committee has also requested documents from the DOJ regarding their recent involvement.
Before the meeting, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) emphasized the importance of hearing from the victims and promised transparency throughout the investigation.
“Yes, we hear them, and we offer our deepest sympathy for what they’ve endured. We assure them of our commitment to transparency, so justice can be served as quickly as possible against those involved in these wrongdoings,” Johnson said on Tuesday.
