Maddow worried about being targeted in possible second Trump term

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow said she worries former President Trump will be targeted if he wins a second term in the White House this fall.

“I think there’s a little bit of escapist complacency that Trump is only going to attack individuals that he’s already targeted,” Maddow told CNN’s Oliver Darcy in an interview published Monday. “Do you really think he’s going to stop at known liberals?”

“It’s also clear that some in the political establishment think they’ll be safe and maybe even profitable if they side with Trump,” she added. “Just ask Mike Pence to see how that ends up.”

President Trump has been a vocal critic of MSNBC for years, particularly attacking Maddow’s reporting and commentary as unfair.

The former president even went so far as to suggest last fall that NBC’s parent company, Comcast Universal, should be investigated for “treason” over its reporting about him.

“Trump Rebellion “Do you think on his first day in office he orders the deployment of U.S. troops against civilians, then on his second day he backs away? And by the way, why are you so sure that these massive camps that the president is planning are just for migrants?” Maddow said. “So, yes, I’m worried about myself, but I’m just as worried about all of us.”

Her comments came less than two weeks after the former president was convicted of 34 counts of falsifying business records in a criminal trial over hush money. Since his conviction, Trump has leaned into rhetoric that says prosecution of his political opponents is “highly likely” as he prepares to face Biden again in November.

The former president’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 11, just days before the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where he is expected to be nominated as the official Republican presidential candidate.
