NBA legend Magic Johnson faced heavy backlash on social media after he praised President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama’s speech at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday as “the best in the history of our country.”
The former president and wife took to the national convention stage on Tuesday to inspire attendees and urge them to vote for Kamala Harris for president.
But Johnson was overwhelmed by the former president and his wife.
“Former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, [the] “The greatest achievement in the history of our country,” Johnson wrote like a lovesick schoolgirl.
“This dynamic couple spoke about working class families, family values and moving our country forward together. They were strong, intelligent, compassionate and full of integrity,” he exclaimed.
“The Obamas got the Harris/Waltz campaign crowd fired up in the run-up to the election, highlighting why Kamala Harris would be a strong president,” the former basketball player added in another post.
“What a special and amazing night for the 2024 Democratic National Convention!” he enthused.
But many social media users were shocked by Johnson’s ridiculously passionate declaration.
“Better than ‘I Have A Dream?'” one commenter wrote. “Oh my goodness Magic, I couldn’t agree more with this.”
“Better than the Emancipation Proclamation?” added another shocked X user.
“Historically, Magic is an exaggeration,” a third wrote.
