Bill Maher Expresses Doubts About Friendship with Jimmy Kimmel
HBO host Bill Maher is uncertain about his friendship with Jimmy Kimmel, particularly in light of Kimmel’s wife’s stance on severing connections with people based on political beliefs.
On a recent episode of his podcast, “Club Random,” Maher recounted how he publicly disagreed with Kimmel’s wife, Molly McNerney, who has reportedly ended relationships with those who voted for Donald Trump. Maher remarked that this could pose a threat to his friendship with Kimmel.
“I hope we can remain friends, but who knows? The divisive nature of some liberal ideologies can complicate things,” he told Ana Kasparian, his podcast guest.
Maher has previously criticized Kimmel after McNerney openly stated that she advised her family against voting for Trump in the 2024 election. Maher expressed his belief that ultimatums don’t change people’s political views; instead, they often just cause them to rethink their identity.
Kimmel, known for his vocal criticism of Trump, faced backlash from the president on social media. He was also briefly suspended from ABC after making controversial remarks, though he has since returned.
During the podcast, Maher emphasized the importance of maintaining communication, even with those who have differing political views. He shared that he believes cutting ties is never worth it.
Maher, who identifies as an anti-woke liberal, admitted that he has faced criticism from some of his woke friends regarding his viewpoint, and he expressed concern that his bond with Kimmel could be at risk. He reiterated his love for Kimmel, highlighting their shared experiences, including both being let go by ABC.
In closing, Maher acknowledged the tension but affirmed his respect for Kimmel and their friendship. He expressed hope that they could continue their connection despite differing opinions.
