Authorities in Maine recently rescued a woman who was lost in the woods with her husband and dog for four days.
Pamela Helmstadter, 72, was rescued Thursday afternoon in Washington County, according to local station WTMV. The Maine State Watch told the show that her 82-year-old husband, John Helmstadter, was found dead in the woods less than 200 yards from her.
The couple left home on Sunday morning to go for a walk with their dog. They followed the path behind Alexander's home.
The Maine State Watch told WTMV that John fell while climbing and was unable to stand up. Pamela didn't have a cell phone at the time, so she went out to get help.

“She was more physically able than he was, so they made the decision for him to stay where he was and for her to go outside and get help,” said Sgt. Josh Beal explained.
According to WTMV, a neighbor dropped off a package for the couple, noticed it had been left in the same spot for several days, and called authorities.
The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife announced early Thursday that it would begin searching for the couple.
“The Maine Bureau of Surveillance is searching for the missing couple for Mr. Alexander, who was last in contact with his family Saturday evening,” the department's post reads.

On Thursday afternoon, a game warden and his preschool found Pamela, who was suffering from hypothermia. The couple's dog was also with them at the time.
“When the K-12 team found her, her dog was very protective of her and even laid on top of her on her chest,” Beal said. “Dogs seem to do this to keep warm at night.”
Pamela remained alert and told authorities what happened during the rescue. Authorities immediately transported her to the hospital.
“It rained all day Monday and the temperatures dropped,” Beal explained to WTMV. “Wednesday night, the temperature was 27 to 28 degrees. She did a great job of surviving.”
