In a bizarre turn of events in Maine last week, what residents believed was a fire turned into a major drug bust.
According to the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, at 11:24 a.m. on Jan. 31, a concerned resident of the Town of Turner called emergency services for a structure fire and possible smoke coming from the home’s garage. I reported it.
When Turner Fire Rescue firefighters arrived, they determined that the smoke was actually vapor coming from thousands of marijuana plants.
Complex weed treatments in single-family homes used grow lights, chemical fertilizers, dehumidifiers, and propane heaters.
Officials contacted the Maine Office of Cannabis Policy, which determined there was no record of a license being issued to the home or to any homeowners from Massachusetts.
