Maine woman claims she discovered hundreds of absentee ballots in an Amazon package.

Maine officials are currently facing an investigation after residents reported receiving Amazon packages that included unmarked absentee ballots. This was highlighted by the town of Ellsworth, which noted that some ballots intended for the upcoming November election were missing. Maine Secretary of State Shena Bellows stated that both state law enforcement and the FBI are looking into the situation.

Bellows expressed her concern at a press conference, mentioning that it seems there have been attempts to disrupt the distribution of voting materials. “I’m confident that law enforcement will determine responsibility and hold those accountable who are acting inappropriately,” she said.

This election, happening on November 4th, features a Republican-backed initiative that enforces photo ID requirements for voters and reduces the use of drop boxes. Republican state Senator Laurel Libby emphasized its importance, urging supporters of the voter ID initiative to participate in ensuring a secure election.

Meanwhile, a letter from the Maine Republican Party has called for the FBI and U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondy to investigate this incident further. Amazon, for its part, stated that it is not liable for the mishandling of these ballots. The company claimed that initial findings suggest tampering occurred outside its distribution network, implicating neither Amazon employees nor partners.

In light of these revelations, it seems clear that the situation surrounding the election may become even more complicated as investigations continue.
