Duke University men's basketball opens the 2024-25 season this week against the Maine Black Bears, named after stud freshman Cooper Flagg's home state. Flagg is poised to be a mainstay in college basketball this year, but there have already been plenty of other great moments in the first few days of the season, says Creighton's Ryan Kalkbrenner Scored 49 points In the opening game, Tre Johnson found the net for Texas, and Joe Few became famous for his dunk.
During Flagg's impressive performance in his collegiate debut, it was Maine's manager who stole the show. Simon Allen, who scored more than 1,000 points as a high school basketball player in the state, pulled off an incredible dunk performance before the game after taunting the Cameron Crazies.
Although Duke defeated Maine in the season opener, Allen is getting as many social media views as Flagg and freshman teammate Conn Knuppel. Duke fans had no idea what they were getting into when the Maine coach started chatting with them. Now everyone knows what Allen is capable of. Watch the viral video here:
Let's add this child to the team! Maine hasn't been above .500 since 2009-2010. Next year, the Black Bears Cooper Flagg's twin brother Ace appears. Are you saying there isn't a place on the team for a capable high school scorer with legitimate athletic ability?
Only college basketball can create viral moments like Maine basketball's dunk. It's great to have sports back in our lives.
