Mainstream Media and Democrats Are Finally Stopping Their Forceful Climate Messaging to Americans

Shift in Democratic Messaging on Climate Policy

Some corporate media and certain Democrats are adjusting their focus, moving away from climate policy to address rising electricity prices.

Traditionally, climate change has been integral to energy policies championed by Democrats. However, in recent months, there seems to be a noticeable shift. Democratic lawmakers are dialing down references to a “Green New Deal” and ramping up discussions about electricity bills instead. Consumer costs have taken center stage, reflecting a broader change in messaging. Polls indicate that many Americans don’t see climate change policy as a high priority.

“The key to winning is discussing prices,” remarked Democratic Senator Brian Schatz from Hawaii at a recent New York Times event. He highlighted that overloading people with talk about global emergencies and environmental justice could make them feel unheard. “By the time you’re done talking, people will think you don’t care about them.”

Voters are likely to focus on electricity costs as they prepare to vote. Reports suggest that rising power prices are a hot topic in various state and local elections. A recent editorial pointed out that climate policy appears outdated, and this sentiment is echoed by several major media outlets. They are intriguingly noting the transition from climate-related narratives to the more pressing issue of expensive utility bills.

According to a Pew Research Center survey from 2023, most individuals do not view climate change as a top issue as the 2024 election approaches. Former President Trump has also campaigned against Democratic energy policies.

Senator Chris Coons from Delaware commented that Trump failed to mention climate change while blaming rising energy costs on others. In a June report, CNN noted that Democrats are aiming to prioritize electricity bills in this election cycle, with some Senate Democrats pointing fingers at Trump for the increases.

Electricity bills have indeed become noteworthy. Under President Biden, rising energy costs have been attributed to a mix of factors, including a shift toward renewable energy sources and aging infrastructure.

Interestingly, Democratic representatives like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Ed Markey have not reintroduced the Green New Deal during this Congress. Reports indicate that mentions of the bill have significantly dwindled, and some past officials admit that Democrats have lost the narrative on climate change.

There are experts arguing that the climate change issue, while important, may not resonate with the broader concerns of most Americans. Mark Morano, publisher of ClimateDepot.com, expressed that the Democratic Party is now less focused on the climate change narrative. “Recent elections have made it clear that the public is not keen on virtue signaling regarding environmental issues,” he stated, noting a decline in enthusiasm for climate activism globally.
