1. Speaking at the Islamic Center of Southern California, Harris said, “We must have the courage to speak out when the phrase ‘radical Islamic terrorism’ is used to ignore the fact that Muslims have been the greatest victims of terrorism. We must also have the courage to reject the term ‘illegal immigration.'”
2. At the Labour conference, Harris said, “Illegal immigrants are not criminals. We need to reorient this debate.”
3. When asked about the “Abolish ICE” signs during a 2018 interview with MSNBC, Harris said, “I think there’s no question that we need to take a critical look at ICE and its role, how it’s managed, and what it does. And maybe we need to think about starting from scratch.”
4. In an interview with CNN, Harris boldly stated, “There’s no question that I’m in favor of banning fracking. … We have to acknowledge that the residual impacts of fracking are very significant in terms of how it impacts the health and safety of our communities.”
5. Harris tearfully said in an NBC interview, “When you look at the fact that we have about 600 pieces of legislation written or passed in our country that are anti-LGBTQ, that are book bans, that are policy approaches like ‘Don’t say gay,’ you have people who feel in danger, who are in fear for their lives.”
6. In a 2020 “Ebro in the Morning” Zoom interview, Harris was asked what she thought about “defunding the police.” Her answer was, “Defunding the police. The issue behind that is we need to rethink how we ensure safety. Given that many cities spend a third of their entire budget on policing, we know that’s not the smart way to achieve safety, it’s not the best way, it’s not the right way. For too long, the status quo has been that if we put more police on the streets, we’re going to be safer. But that’s wrong.”
