Maintenance worker accused of helping Orleans Parish Jail inmate break out

Former Orleans Parish Prison Worker Arrested Following Inmate Escape

A maintenance worker at Orleans Parish Prison was taken into custody on Friday in connection with the escape of ten inmates from the facility. Sterling Williams, 33, faces charges related to ten counts of simple escape and misconduct, according to a statement from Attorney General Liz Maril.

Maril reported that Williams admitted to an agent that one of the escapees instructed him to turn off the water in the cell where an inmate had escaped. Rather than reporting the situation, Williams complied with the request, which ultimately aided the inmates in their escape.

He has since been booked at Orleans Parish Jail, although he may be relocated to another facility. This incident is part of an ongoing investigation, and authorities are hopeful about providing updates as the situation unfolds. Muril stated, “We will reveal all the facts as we proceed. Anyone who assisted in this escape will face legal consequences.” He also urged anyone with information regarding the matter to come forward.

This situation is still developing and more details may emerge in the future.
