Prominent Democrats are calling for independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to be provided with Secret Service protection in the wake of the alleged assassination attempt on former President Trump.
Colorado Governor Jared Polis took to social media just hours after the shooting at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, to call on President Biden to reverse his administration’s earlier decision to deny Secret Service protection to Kennedy.
“I encourage [Biden] Provide immediate Secret Service protection [Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.]” Polis wrote to X.

By early spring, the Kennedy campaign was $1.4 million in debt to private security companies, while the Biden administration has repeatedly rejected requests for Secret Service protection.
Kennedy Attacking Biden This comes after he rejected at least three requests for protection during the 2024 election campaign, dating back to last year.
According to the letter obtained by the Deseret News, the Biden administration argues that Secret Service protection for Kennedy is “not justified,” despite the fact that Kennedy has received multiple documented death threats against him.

Kennedy’s father, the late Robert F. Kennedy, a former New York senator and U.S. attorney general, and his uncle, the late former president John F. Kennedy, were both assassinated in the 1960s.
Appearing on Fox News after the assassination attempt, Kennedy praised the Secret Service agents who rushed to protect Trump during the shooting, but declined to further criticize the Biden administration for refusing to provide protection for Trump.
