New Restaurant to Open in Former Tribeca Grill Space
Major Food Group, known for popular spots like Carbone and Torici, is set to take over a prime location in downtown Manhattan, specifically the site that long housed Tribeca Grill. This new venture, which has yet to be named, will be an American tavern and steakhouse, revitalizing 375 Greenwich Street. Chef Rich Torrisi, alongside partners Mario Carbone and Jeff Zalaznick, will lead the initiative.
“Mario, Jeff, and I have always admired New York restaurants that are woven into the fabric of people’s lives,” Torrisi shared. “These are the places that endure because they have genuine character, generosity, and soul.”
This project is particularly exciting for Torrisi. He sees it as a chance to honor a notable tradition while providing a fresh reason for patrons to return. Tribeca Grill, which was co-owned by actor Robert De Niro, closed its doors in March 2025 after being a local treasure for 35 years. The establishment was a favorite among celebrities and power players alike, and even De Niro still owns the property, which once welcomed notable figures like John F. Kennedy Jr. and Bruce Springsteen.
Interestingly, Torrisi recounted a moment when he, Carbone, and Zalaznick met De Niro while discussing the space. They quickly aligned on their vision, and it all came together quite smoothly.
MFG aims to refresh the dining experience in this historical location, emphasizing a concept designed for a new generation of diners while respecting the legacy of its predecessor. As Zalaznick stated, “The role of 375 Greenwich Street in the history of downtown New York dining is immense.” He added, “This is a unique opportunity: right place, right time, right chef.”
“We’re honored to help write the next chapter for one of New York’s finest dining rooms,” Zalaznick concluded.
While there have been whispers since March about MFG securing the space, details about the new restaurant are still under wraps. It seems likely this spot will become one of Manhattan’s sought-after destinations, adding to Major Food Group’s impressive lineup, which includes other notable names like ZZ’s Club and The Grill.
