Majority of Americans don't think Trump will concede if he loses election: poll

A majority of Americans say they “do not believe” former President Trump would “accept the results and concede defeat once the vote is certified” if he does not win the next presidential election, according to a new poll.

of CNN PollA poll released Tuesday found that 77% of Americans “believe” that if Trump does not win this fall’s election, “if the vote is certified, he will not accept the results and concede defeat.” Just 28% said that if Trump does not win the upcoming election, “if the vote is certified, he will accept the results and concede defeat.”

In contrast, 78% of Americans said they “think” that if President Biden does not win this fall’s election, he “will accept the results and concede defeat once the vote is certified.” The poll also found that 22% said that if Biden does not win the next election, he will not “accept the results and concede defeat once the vote is certified.”

Biden has had a tough week in the press after a dismal performance last week in the presidential debates, during which he stumbled, croaked and threw down the gauntlet, raising the possibility that he may be eliminated as the Democratic front-runner.

The Biden campaign, amid a tough fight following last week’s debate, noted in a staff-wide memo on Wednesday that the polls are neck and neck with Trump. The campaign is preparing for “much discussion and analysis” around the new polls, but “last night’s internal battlefield overview indicates a stable race,” the memo said.

The poll was conducted June 28-30 and 1,274 people responded. The margin of error at the 95 percent confidence level is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

The Hill has reached out to the Trump campaign.
