The majority of Americans who watched the show had a positive reaction to President Biden’s State of the Union address Thursday night. CNN Flash Poll Found.
A survey conducted by SSRS shortly after the speech found that more than 6 in 10 Americans who watched the speech responded positively to the president’s message.
CNN attracted attention on air The poll was conducted late Thursday among speech watchers, not the electorate as a whole. Although this sample was more Democratic than the general population, just as many Democrats watch the State of the Union when a Democratic president gives it, just as Republicans watch the State of the Union when a Republican is president. is common.
Of those who watched the speech, 64% responded positively to Biden’s message, with 35% saying it was “very positive” and 29% saying it was “somewhat positive.”
35% of viewers said they had a negative reaction to the speech.
CNN noted that while the majority of viewers enjoyed his speech, the number was still down from his previous address to Congress and the American people.
Last year, Biden hit a low with just 34% of viewers saying they had a very favorable response to his 2023 State of the Union address. In 2022, she said 41 percent said the same. Biden delivered a virtual address to a joint session of Congress in 2021, shortly after his inauguration, and received a 51% positive response, according to CNN.
Still, viewers’ opinions changed during Biden’s speech on Thursday.
Prior to the speech, respondents were asked whether they thought Biden’s policies were moving the United States in the right direction. 45% of speech watchers said Biden is moving the country in the right direction. After the lecture, 62% gave the same answer.
As the 81-year-old Biden faces questions about his ability to lead the country, a slight increase in viewers felt reassured by his ability to carry out his duties as president. CNN found that much of the improvement occurred among political independents.
Biden’s speech was seen as a pivotal moment in his campaign, as he looks increasingly likely to face former President Trump in polls this fall.
