Majority of Florida voters back abortion rights ballot measure: Poll

A majority of Florida voters say they support a ballot measure that would enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution, according to a new poll released Friday by The Hill/Emerson College Poll.

Fifty-five percent of Florida voters said they would vote “yes” on Amendment 4, which would create a constitutional guarantee in the state for abortion before a fetus is viable. An additional 26% said they planned to vote “no,” and 20% said they were “unsure.”

National Democrats are ramping up their presence in Florida in an effort to tie Republicans to the state's six-week abortion ban. Vice President Harris' campaign kicked off a “Reproductive Rights for All” bus tour in Palm Beach on Tuesday, while Democratic Senate candidate and former Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell is trying to tie her opponent, Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.), to the state's abortion ban.

Former President Trump made headlines last week when he said he believed states' six-week bans on abortion were “too short.”

But the next day, Trump said he would vote against Florida's Amendment 4, which would enshrine the right to an abortion in the Florida Constitution.

While the voting amendments could boost turnout, Democrats would have an uphill battle to win the state in the presidential election, where Trump has 50% support to Harris' 45%, according to a Hill-Emerson College poll.

But the Senate seat is deadlocked, with Mucarsel-Powell trailing Scott by just one point.

The Hill/Emerson College poll was conducted Sept. 3-5 among 815 Florida voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.
