Fetterman’s Bipartisan Vote Draws Praise from Lara Trump
Lara Trump recently expressed her admiration for Senator John Fetterman, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, praising his decision to join Republicans in efforts to end the government shutdown. She likened his actions to those of her father-in-law, Donald Trump.
During a conversation with Martha MacCallum on Fox News, Trump highlighted Fetterman’s choice to break from party lines and vote alongside Republicans to restore government funding. She stated, “It’s so refreshing, Martha, to see that there is someone like John Fetterman out there, a politician who does the right thing, regardless of the pressure he feels from his own party or a TV host like Sonny Hostin.”
She continued to draw a parallel to Donald Trump, stating he embodies the authenticity that many people appreciate: “He reminds me of someone else I know. His name is Donald J. Trump. This is what people love. They love authenticity and they love someone who is willing to stand up and fight for the right things.”
Lara Trump emphasized that Fetterman consistently voted with Republicans to reopen the government, underscoring his stance against government shutdowns. When she interviewed him, Fetterman expressed his opposition to any shutdown, a sentiment she found significant.
Trump argued that the Democratic-led shutdown was detrimental to the country, stating, “Look at the havoc that it wreaked across our country. Look at the flights right now. Look at the fact that you have, you know, people who rely on government assistance, who haven’t been able to get SNAP benefits, etc.”
Once viewed as a far-left figure by Republicans, she claimed Fetterman is now displaying common sense within the Democratic Party.
In addition to his bipartisan stance, Fetterman has faced tensions within his party regarding his strong support for Israel. He acknowledged that his views on the Jewish state seem increasingly at odds with being a proud Democrat. “My heart breaks for what the Jewish community has suffered, especially after [October 7, 2023],” he remarked, reflecting on conversations with those affected by the ongoing conflict.
Fetterman further explained, “It’s heartbreaking… being devoted to Israel is becoming increasingly incompatible with being a proud Democrat now too, and that’s put me at odds.” He noted that these conflicting views have come to a head simultaneously, complicating his position within the party.
