Shotzi Blackheart Begins Title Reign in MLW
Shotzi Blackheart kicked off her first reign as Major League Wrestling (MLW) Women’s World Champion by taking down Shoko Nakajima at “Fusion” earlier this year. It’s noteworthy, too, as this was her inaugural title in MLW, and she expressed her excitement about being at the top of the women’s division just months after officially joining in March.
“Oh my god, it feels so good. Look at this beauty. I love it,” she shared during an interview, showcasing her championship belt. “I love MLW. I’m really proud to be their champion. No one understands Shotzi Blackheart better than MLW. So, being champion here is just the greatest thing ever. Yes, I’m proud.”
Now, with the title comes a target on her back. Various challengers are eager to take a shot. Her next title defense will be against the promising Kira from Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL).
Kira, who joined CMLL in 2023, quickly made waves by participating in the tournament for the CMLL Universal Amazons Championship. While she didn’t win that match, she stands a solid chance of seizing the MLW Women’s World Title from Shotzi this Saturday.
Shotzi seemed enthusiastic about what Kira brings to the ring. “I mean, she’s great. I saw her a few months ago during my CMLL visit. She’s definitely an up-and-comer,” Shotzi remarked. “I think she could be the CMLL Women’s Champion soon. She could really run a company someday, and it would be awesome for her to be part of MLW.”
Shotzi also noted, “I want to compete against talented wrestlers like her, those who have spent a lot of time honing their skills and truly love this sport. She’s a fantastic high flyer; I was really impressed when I looked into her work. I’m excited; I think it’s going to be a great match.”
But Kira isn’t the only one gunning for Shotzi’s title. Scarlett Bordeaux, a close friend of Shotzi’s, mentioned that while she supports her, she won’t hold back if and when they face off in the ring.
Shotzi has confidence in Bordeaux’s potential, stating, “I believe Scarlett would make a fantastic champion anywhere. But when we compete, I’ll make her work for it. Maybe she’ll be the one to take it from me! I’m all for a feud with her; we love each other but are also ready to battle.”
As for Shotzi, she seems to relish the challenge of having a target on her back. “It feels good. It feels nice to be wanted, right? I love having this attention,” she said. “I’m all in for it. I love the competition and the intensity. With MLW partnering with CMLL and Stardom, there are so many talented women coming in looking to take my title, and I embrace it.”
The MLW women’s roster is incredibly deep, making it hard to predict who will challenge for the title next. Wrestlers like Lady Frost, Zamaya, Priscilla Kelly, and others from companies like CMLL and Stardom are ready and waiting for their shot.
