Giants’ Offensive Stars Dealing with Injuries
The injury report for the Giants reveals that their top three offensive players are struggling, with receiver Malik Nabers facing the most uncertainty.
Nabers (knee) sat out Wednesday’s practice, while tight end Isaiah Likely (knee/groin) and running back Cam Skattebo (shoulder) had limited participation. Skattebo was notably in a red non-contact jersey.
“I’m a little sore,” Nabers commented.
He’s coming off what many would call his best performance of the season: six catches for 112 yards and a touchdown on seven targets. During the game, he expressed his desire to quarterback Jameis Winston and head coach John Harbaugh for more involvement in plays during the second half.
However, to see those targets on Sunday against the Commanders, Nabers needs to be on the field.
And the troubling thing is he can’t assure everyone that he will be available—not just because he landed awkwardly after a catch against the Cardinals but primarily due to his knee, which underwent reconstructive surgery back in September 2025.
“We’ll see how tomorrow feels, but I usually handle soreness through the week. This time, it’s a bit more sore than usual. But I keep fighting through it,” he added.
Nabers and his close friend, Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, have both faced a challenging year filled with injuries but are looking forward to reconnecting.
“It’s been told to me that getting back to football shape… it’s a mix of good days and bad days, and there are hurdles to cross,” Nabers shared. “I’m tackling this head-on and just trying to push through to be able to play.”
Other players missing from practice include DL Chauncey Golston (neck), RB Najee Harris (personal reasons), S Chauncey Golston (concussion), and LT Andrew Thomas (groin).
Harbaugh mentioned that Golston is seeking additional opinions on what might be a lasting injury.
As for Harris, he is expected to return on Thursday.
Thomas has adopted a routine of not practicing until later in the week as a form of recovery maintenance.
Quarterback Jake Haener was signed to the 53-man roster, even though the Giants had options to elevate him from the practice squad for game days. With three QBs on the roster, the Giants will have the flexibility to name either Haener or J.J. McCarthy as the third-string emergency quarterback, effectively keeping one inactive unless both Winston and the second-string QB are unable to play. Had Haener remained on the practice squad, all three QBs would have needed activation among the 46 players eligible for game days.
Thus, Haener’s signing enables the Giants to add an extra backup in another area—and allows for a core special-teamer to join the offense.
In some positive news, cornerback Deonte Banks received the NFC Defensive Player of the Week title following his crucial pick-six.
Center Bryan Hudson was seen practicing with the first-team offensive line, getting ahead of John Michael Schmitz Jr. during the media-viewing segment.
