Exciting News for Giants Fans: Malik Nabors Returns to Practice
Fans of the New York Giants had a pleasant surprise during practice on Wednesday. Malik Nabors, who faced a serious knee injury in Week 4 last season, was back on the field, much to everyone’s relief and excitement. New head coach John Harbaugh noted, “He looks good,” which surely boosted the spirits of the team and its supporters.
While there’s still uncertainty around the schedule for the first-round pick in 2024, just seeing Nabors participating in practice was a significant moment for many.
Nabors’ injury was more complicated than a straightforward tear, requiring him to wait for swelling to decrease before he could have surgery. Later on, he had to deal with some scar tissue and stiffness in the same knee.
His availability remained unclear for the early part of the season after undergoing two surgeries. However, general manager Joe Schoen expressed his joy watching Nabors run at the Greenbrier in West Virginia as training camp kicked off.
“We have really good plans for him,” Schoen shared. “The medical staff has a solid plan, and we’re always going to encourage them to listen to their patients. We’ll see how he responds, but we’ve got a good plan in place. Hopefully, he will be ready; time will tell.”
Nabors’ injury occurred during a critical moment when he jumped for a pass in QB Jackson Dart’s first career start. He quickly went down, leaving fans at MetLife Stadium anxious as he was carried off the field.
This summer, Nabors stayed in New Jersey to work closely with the Giants’ medical team for his recovery. Impressively, he wasn’t placed on the physically unable to perform list as training camp began, with the team expecting him to be ready by Week 1.
“It was great to see him. He looked good,” Harbaugh commented, acknowledging Nabors’ progress. “I thought he was doing well.”
Dart, who celebrated Nabors’ birthday on Instagram, expressed joy at being able to throw to him on opening day. “He definitely has a presence,” Dart remarked. “The aura he exudes on the field is refreshing. Just seeing him out there makes everyone happy. He’s doing an excellent job attacking his recovery, and I have all the confidence in him. I think it feels really good for him to be back with the team.”
