Mamdani responds to Trump labeling him a communist: ‘I identify as a democratic socialist’

Mamdani on Trump calling him a communist: ‘I am a democratic socialist’

Zoran Mamdani Defends Political Stance Against Trump’s Claims

Zoran Mamdani, the Democratic candidate for mayor of New York City, addressed President Trump’s assertions labeling him a “communist” during an interview on Monday.

Mamdani highlighted an observation on American politics, noting that Trump seems to be uncomfortable with acknowledging his true political identity as a “democratic socialist” and insists on calling him a communist instead.

“It reflects, I think, that while that label has worked for Trump before, he recognizes that my message resonates with New Yorkers across five districts, so he avoids using it. It’s a message about dignity in people’s lives,” he added.

Referencing his significant lead in the general election polls, Mamdani suggested that Trump appears to be experiencing sadness over the situation. “What we see in these clips shows Trump going through various stages of grief,” Mamdani noted.

He elaborated, “Initially, there’s denial about this happening. Now it’s accepted. Still, he’s using all the resources at his disposal to support Andrew Cuomo in becoming the city’s next mayor.”

Earlier, Trump had expressed frustration with Mamdani, warning that he “has had issues in Washington in the storied history of a great city.”

“NYC communist Zohran Mamdani, running for mayor, proves to be one of the best things we’ve ever done for our great Republican,” Trump stated in The Truth Society. “He faces challenges with Washington similar to the city’s past mayors.”

Trump concluded by saying, “Remember, he needs funding from me as president to deliver on all those false communist promises. Since he hasn’t received it, what’s the point of voting for him?”
