Officials say the man and two boys were rescued from the wreckage of a small plane near Homer, Alaska.
The Alaska Troopers said they were alerted that the Piper PA-12 Super Cruiser aircraft had been postponed and had not arrived at their destination.
The plane was suspected to be located in the Kenai Mountains and Lake Tastumena, east of Homer.
The rescue operation began quickly, involving the rescue coordination centre and the Coast Guard AC-130, but Airguard C-130 and HH-60 helicopter were on standby.

The glacier will be found in the Kenai Mountains on September 6, 2019, near Primrose, Alaska. Scientists at the US Geological Survey have been studying glaciers in the area since 1966, and their research shows that warming climates have resulted in sustained glacial mass losses as melting overcame new snow and ice accumulation. The trooper pointed out that all three of them saved from the wreckage were close relatives.
