Man allegedly shot in the groin by felon after being recorded on video following a scooter accident.

A 41-year-old man had just returned from his construction job and was sitting in his car on the 500 block of West Scott Street in Chicago, texting a co-worker about the schedule for the next day.

Meanwhile, another man, who was riding his scooter, crashed into the car and fell over. This, as reported by local news outlets.

The man in the car decided to record a short clip of the scooter rider who had just taken a tumble.

However, the scooter rider didn’t seem pleased about being filmed after the accident.

According to prosecutors, he got up, parked his scooter by the car, then walked away for a moment. He returned wielding a gun.

Judge Luciano Panici Jr. has since held this man, identified as Michael J. Jones, under charges of aggravated assault for discharging a firearm, along with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Surveillance footage reportedly shows Jones walking to the car and firing two shots downward into the victim’s knee. Afterwards, he moved to the back of the car and shot several more rounds as he exited the scene.

The victim, armed himself, fired back from inside his vehicle, prompting Jones to shoot again while trying to flee.

When police arrived, they found the victim on the sidewalk next to his car, suffering from gunshot wounds to the thigh, calf, and scrotum.

Additionally, Jones was identified by police through an informant who knew of his involvement. Further footage allegedly shows him walking toward a nearby residence shortly after the shooting. During his arrest, officers found a loaded handgun in his cargo pants pocket, which he claimed was for protection due to living in a dangerous neighborhood.

Jones, having a felony firearms conviction from 2016, faces serious charges in connection with the incident, which occurred just before 9:30 p.m. on July 11. He was arrested on Saturday and is set to appear in court on Thursday.
