A man arrested for boarding a Metro bus without paying his fare in Washington, D.C., was found to be in possession of a loaded shotgun, according to the Metro Transit Police Department.
The identified man is fox 5dc Gerald Evans, 30, was arrested by plainclothes bus enforcement officers around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday after he allegedly boarded an X2 bus without paying.
When a police officer attempted to issue a citation to Evans for fare evasion, he allegedly refused to produce identification and was arrested.
A loaded shotgun was found hidden under Evans' coat during a search of his home during his arrest.

Evans was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of unregistered ammunition, fleeing and fare evasion.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority told FOX 5 that Evans' arrest is “an example of fare enforcement in action.”

According to FOX 5, the gun belonging to Evans was reported stolen in Prince George's County, Maryland.

It was also reported that he had an outstanding felony warrant for theft from Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

The Metro Transit Authority announced in November it would crack down on tax evasion on bus fares, after previously saying nearly 70% of passengers were not paying for their trips.
