Man arrested on suspicion of murder of woman found stabbed in Sussex car park | UK news

Sussex Police said a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found stabbed to death in a car park on Sunday morning.

Officers were called to reports of an altercation between a man and a woman on Station Way in Crawley, West Sussex, at around 7.10am.

Police said after searching the area, they found a woman with stab wounds in a nearby parking lot.

She was treated by paramedics but was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police said they conducted a widespread search for the suspect and quickly found a 26-year-old man on Stevenson Street.

Police say the man, from Crawley, remains in custody.

Detective Superintendent Rachel Sweeney said: “This is a tragic incident in which a young woman has lost her life and we are doing all we can to understand exactly what happened.”

“Officers were able to quickly take the suspect into custody and are not currently searching for any other suspects.”

“There will be an increased police presence in Crawley downtown as investigations continue and I would ask anyone with any concerns to speak to officers on the scene.”

Police, citing Operation Ben, asked witnesses or “anyone with information that may help” to contact police online or on 101.
