The Department of Justice announced Wednesday that a man has been arrested and charged with detonating an explosive device outside the Alabama Attorney General’s Office in February. announced.
Prosecutors say Kyle Calvert, 26, of Alabama, detonated a small explosive device outside his office in Montgomery around 3:45 a.m. on February 27. No injuries or property damage were reported.
He was charged with malicious use of explosives and possession of an unregistered destructive device.
“Thanks to the work of the FBI and state and local law enforcement partners, this defendant was held accountable for allegedly detonating an explosive device outside the Alabama Attorney General’s Office,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement. “There is,” he said. “The Department of Justice will not tolerate acts of violence directed at those who serve the public.”
If convicted, Calvert could face five to 20 years in prison.
