Leaked Texts Linked to Jane Doe in Cornell Fraternity Investigation

Recent leaks of text messages have significantly impacted the ongoing investigation of a sexual assault case at Cornell University. This development comes amidst extensive student protests on the Ithaca, New York campus, where many are calling for accountability and justice.

A 19-year-old has been taken into custody, accused of secretly filming a fellow student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte during a sexual encounter and sharing the video with a fraternity group chat.

Authorities allege that Alexander Michael Evanoff used his mobile phone on September 19 to covertly record a “sexually explicit video” with a woman, then distributed it without her consent. He faces charges that include one count of disclosing private images and two counts of felony secret peeping.

After the encounter, Evanoff reportedly shared the explicit video in a Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity group chat that had 32 members.

According to an affidavit, during a police interview, Evanoff confessed to intentionally recording the encounter and sending the video to his fraternity peers. He also admitted that he did not seek or receive the woman’s permission to record or share the video.

When the woman confronted him about the recording, she asked if sharing it with the fraternity made him feel “cool,” to which he reportedly responded positively and then apologized.

Evanoff was arrested on Monday and later released on a $10,000 bond, per court and jail records.

Saylor Schwab, an assistant director of communications for Sigma Alpha Epsilon, stated that Evanoff’s bid for initiation was canceled following the emergence of the allegations. “He is not a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and was never initiated into the North Carolina Beta Chapter. The chapter leaders acted promptly upon learning of his conduct,” Schwab remarked, asserting that the fraternity does not tolerate any form of sexual misconduct.

In addition, a representative from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte confirmed that Evanoff is not currently enrolled there. The spokesperson described the alleged actions as reprehensible, emphasizing that such behavior is not tolerated within their community.

Efforts to obtain comments from the university and Evanoff’s attorney were unsuccessful.
