Drunken Driving Incident Claims Life in Nashville

An undocumented immigrant has been charged in connection with the death of a 37-year-old woman following a drunken driving accident in Nashville, Tennessee. The woman’s husband remains in serious condition, fighting for his life.

Giulio Caesar Herrera Gonzales, originally from Honduras, faces multiple charges including vehicular homicide, aggravated assault, driving under the influence, and operating a vehicle without a license, as reported by the Metropolitan Nashville Police.

According to police reports, at around 3:25 AM on August 10, Gonzales was reportedly driving against traffic when he collided with a Nissan Rogue containing Marco Antonio Baez del Angel and his wife, Raquel Lorena Saravia Barajas.

Barajas was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries. Baez del Angel is currently hospitalized in critical condition.

Police noted that Gonzales exhibited signs of impairment at the time of the crash but suffered only minor injuries himself.

Records from the Department of Homeland Security reveal that Gonzales was granted Temporary Protected Status in 2008, but that was revoked in 2015. He has a prior conviction for vandalism.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement has put a hold on Gonzales, meaning that if he is released from incarceration, he will be immediately detained.

Officials stated, “Gonzalez drove drunk, causing the death of Raquel Lorena Saravia Barajas and endangering her husband, Marco Antonio Baez del Angel.” They expressed concern about the recurrent nature of such incidents involving undocumented immigrants, emphasizing that these tragedies could be avoided. Furthermore, they highlighted the role of leaders in advocating for victims of crimes committed by illegal immigrants.
